Dahilia

Dahlias are flowers that will give your garden and landscape something new and vibrant to rekindle your love for gardening. They are also favored because of their coloration during the fall months of the year. They will usually bloom from mid summer to late fall and have a wide range of colors from orange, white and purple. The blooms will be magnificent and fairly large for the size of the plant, ranging anywhere from two to twelve inches across. The plants will range from several inches tall to upwards of twenty feet. Most of the larger species are found in the wild. Dahilias also make beautiful fresh cut flowers and will keep for many days in your home.
These flowers can also be perennial or annual, depending on the species so make sure to research before deciding which species you will want to plant in your garden or landscape area. Dahlias come in many colors and petal shapes thanks to the many cultivars that have experimented with the breeding of these flowers. This particular type of flower is simply breathtaking. You can plant it in colonies and have many colors in one area, form a border around your already existing flower bed, or you can plant them all on their own. They will look amazing in any area you see fit. There are so many species from double flowering to single flowering to anemone and orchid flowers types. These flowers will do best in soil conditions that are well drained and prefer a pH level from six to six and a half. Also, these flowers love organic matter, so adding some compost or peat moss will improve the overall health and happiness of the flower. When you plant these, make sure the soil is somewhat warm and moist as they will adapt much better. They do best in climate zones eight through ten and will require at least six hours of sunlight each day to reach their potential. Adding these flowers to your garden is a great idea, and you will love the results!

Make Your Patio Area Vibrant Planting Perennials

Perennial plants provide color and life to a patio from early spring until the onset of fall. They are very easy to maintain and bloom year after year. There are many different perennials, such as herbs, grasses and flowering plants. They can be grown in baskets, containers and garden beds. To create landscaping around patio with perennials, there are steps that can be followed.

Selecting colors of perennials is an important part of creating a lovely patio garden. While some gardeners prefer to stick to a particular color scheme, such as pinks and whites, others like flowers of every color to brighten their outdoor space. The choice of the color scheme is up to the individual. It would add visual interest to the garden to introduce a new color each year! There are perennials available in almost every color! Blue, pink, red, white, yellow and orange are just some of the colors of perennials!

An important step in planning a perennial garden is choosing plants that have spring blooms. It will provide color to the garden from the onset of spring showers. Coral bells are very colorful and bloom from spring until early fall. The pincushion is a very attractive flower that will attract butterflies to any garden. The bleeding heart has a beautiful heart-shaped flower that will produce blooms from spring to fall. These are just a few of the many gorgeous flowers to choose from when selecting spring blooms.

A herb garden is another type of perennials which adds green to a patio and also brings fresh herbs into a kitchen. They can be planted in containers or garden beds and will bring the flavor to your kitchen from spring until fall. There are many different types, but some popular ones include chives, lavender, sage and tarragon.

While landscaping around patio, one thing that should be considered is depth. Low growing perennials such as baby's breath should be planted at the front of the garden while the tallest should be planted at the back. Plants can graduate in size from the most compact at the front of the garden to the tallest at the back. The field of depth and color will add interest to the patio garden.

Creating a patio garden with perennials & wildflowers can be a lot of fun! It is also very rewarding to watch the plants grow and flower year after year.
