Landscape Like A Millionaire For Pennies

It is generally accepted that to landscape your yard, it should cost anywhere from 5 to 15% of your home’s value. Wow! That’s a lot! Sometimes that is just not possible. If you’re willing to work a little both in your yard and in your research, you will be able to have a great looking outdoors that brings curb appeal to your home. Here are some ideas for you to landscape your yard for less but still have it look fantastic.

First of all make a plan of how you want your home's yard to look when your finished. Take stock of what’s already growing because you may be able to incorporate it into your plan. Look to your own neighbors for landscaping ideas as well as what kinds of trees and bushes they have. If you like what you see, ask if you can take a few cuttings from their yard. Once you put the word out, your neighbors may even find tree seedlings that are growing out of place and give them to you.

Hardware and general stores with nurseries sell smaller potted plants and trees that you can buy to plant on your own. Keep in mind that at the end of the growing season they sell what's left of their outdoor décor, plants, and trees at a discount. So if you’re willing to gamble and wait, you can save even more money. These same plant retailers also offer many plants in flats, this is a bulk way to buy alot of plants. This gives you many more plants at a cheaper price but just make sure each plant you see is viable and one you can use.

Try calling your local government, garden clubs, a plant nursery or botanical centers to see if they offer any free trees, plants, wildflower seeds, and even mulch or wood chips. Sometimes they give these to recruit residents to help beautify the city. Another idea is to search the internet for free plants. With a little research, you will find sites that offer free seeds and plants or some of that work as plant exchanges. Just be sure that whatever you find is suitable to grow in your geographic area.

Last but not least, for landscaping décor, try yard sales, Craig’s List, construction, and even demolition sites for material that can make anything from pathways and planters to benches. Just make sure to ask before you take anything. These are just a few ideas to help you landscape without spending tons of money.
