Make a Memorable Father's Day

Give the gift of time

We live in such a fast paced world and technology is advancing so quickly! Sometimes we spend so much time on screens and going places and doing things that it can be easy to lose track of each other.

Earlier this week, a friend sent the following: "My father is no longer with us, but I still remember his scent. He smelled grounded and earthy. He labored long and carried dirt beneath his nails. He taught me how to tend to our gardens and provide food for our family, and in doing so, he taught me how to be patient...how to be kind, and how to be consistent and follow through."

Get back to the basics

How can we get back to simplicity? With projects, of course! Engaging in a project with a loved one allows time to bond, as well as memories for years to come. Try one of these ideas this Father's Day.

1) Plant a tree

Anyone can plant a tree! Trees come in so many varieties and shapes and sizes.  Even apartment dwellers can find a suitable tree for a small container garden on the patio. Home owners can plant in their yard, and following generations can watch the tree grow.

2) Create a secret garden

What better way to bond than to create a special retreat? Gardens don't have to be fancy or complex to be special. Is there a nook in the corner of your backyard? Do you have a patio space? Can you build a simple trellis and implement vines? Get creative!

3) Grow a themed Garden

Is a full blown vegetable garden not your thing? Try a small and manageable themed garden. Does your family favor herbs? Or a specific type of flower? If you don't have a lot of space, consider container gardening.

This Father's day, let's make a concentrated effort to slow down and build memories, and give (or receive) the gift of time.

Don't forget! If you still need a tangible gift, Tn Nursery has gift certificates available Here.
